WASHINGTON – The US Energy Department announced Thursday that it had made US$2 billion (S$2.7 billion) in grants and US$10 billion (S$13.5 billion) in loans available to auto companies to convert existing factories that build gas-powered cars and trucks into plants that produce hybrid and electric vehicles.
